The road to healing is hard, but you don't need to do it alone.
If you are on this website and reading this page, chances are great that you are mulling through your experiences within a religious or high control context and trying to figure out where to go from here.
Maybe you were raised in a form of faith that you now feel uncomfortable with and are identifying ways that the teachings no longer serve you.
Maybe you now recognize how you were complicit in furthering an oppressive system(s) and feel the weight of shame and guilt about your participation.
Maybe you are deconstructing and your spouse or partner isn't, which leaves you unsure of how to navigate this important relationship and fearful about the future.
Maybe you have been living in the closet when it comes to your sexuality and/or gender identity and feel unable to maintain this facade, but also unsure of where to go from here.
Maybe you no longer hold the religious beliefs that are required to keep your ministry-related job and are wondering how to navigate this challenging predicament.
Maybe you are someone who just wants to live with authenticity, congruence, and honesty, but this seems impossible due to where you find yourself in life.
This list could go on!
If you relate to any of the above descriptions, you are exactly the type of person that Find Your Way Counselling had in mind when it was started in 2019 (previously called Kelsey Hoff Counselling). We get it and want to walk with you in the pain, confusion, messiness, and 'in-between' that is so often experienced by those who are processing adverse experiences within religion and high control environments.
We know how difficult it can be to come to terms with the fact that you've been hurt, that you no longer fit, and that big changes are needed in order to live your best life. We want to help you get there and will be with you in every step of the way.
We believe in the power of self-determination, which means that you hold the key to your own healing and growth. Our job is simply to help guide you along the path towards recovery.
It's not easy to navigate leaving a religious community. We know this firsthand, and we're here to help.
We've been there—we've questioned, deconstructed, left, and processed our past religious involvements for years. And along the way, we've found that many counsellors aren't equipped to handle the unique dynamics of your experience as a current or former member of a high-control religious group.
That's where we come in. We want you to feel heard, validated, supported—and we want you to get the help you need!
We know that when you're seeking help, you're looking for honesty and openness. You want to make sure you can trust the person helping you. Unfortunately, we've seen how unclarity has been used in many settings to bypass uncomfortable conversation, to dodge accountability, or for other reasons.
Find Your Way Counselling is committed to living into the "clear is kind" mandate in all ways possible. However, if anything about who we are, what we believe in, and what we offer as mental health professionals can be made even clearer, please do not hesitate to reach out and we are happy to chat further. Your sense of safety is our highest priority!
We hope that we can be part of your journey to finding your way home - to yourself, to your community, and to your future.
